The Natural Uncertainty Dispatch

Dona nobis pacem....

Coverage by The New York Times of the Iceland volcano ash cloud drew this letter from Steve Pauley, which was published on April 28 as follows: "Nature bats last and owns the stadium. Relax, everyone." Relaxation is a good approach to uncertainty (the point of John Keats' notion of "Negative Capabilities", often cited on this website), and uncertainty shares the same advantages as Mr. Pauley's nature.

We are told (endlessly) that markets hate uncertainty. But when market certainties fail (as they always -as if it needs to be said), we do all suffer. Pace Trotsky, while you may not be interested in economic collapse, economic collapse is most certainly interested in you.
