The Watery Dispatch
Just water, please.

Jason Zweig conluded his
Intelligent Investor column in the April 24-25 Wall Street Journal
with the words "You can lead an investor to disclosure, but you
can't make him think."
This references the old saw about the horse and the water he won't
drink. Admittedly, a frustrating problem - if the horse won't drink
the water, how are you supposed to get any ridin' done? Maybe you
should bring along a friend who has a thirsty horse so that your
balky horse gets the idea. Maybe your horse is a mule. Maybe your
horse is an ass. Maybe you should find a sucker you can unload you
horse on, and then go buy another horse.
Just thinking....
David Pichaske's penetrating new book Song of the North Country: A
Midwest Framework to the Songs of Bob Dylan at one point considers
Dylan's (largely self-) education. Mindful of Dylan's recent
projects encouraging a similar absorption in those listening, Mr.
Pichaske has a thought: "It's all a matter of archeology ... and
receptivity." |
